Payment Options
We accept Visa and Mastercard credit cards, or you may check out using your PayPal account via PayPal Express. We do not accept debit cards, cheques, or money orders. If you are purchasing a download product, you must register using the Log In button at the top right on this page before you check out.
Downloadable Items
We offer the option of purchasing many kits, forms, and other items as downloadable software. Please note that larger kits employ an installer that will only work on a computer using the MS Windows operating system. Please check the Product Sepcification of the download item before you purchase it. Downloadable items are non-refundable. If you are purchasing a download product, you must register using the Log In button at the top right on this page before you check out because you will then be able to download the product from your account as soon as your payment has cleared.
Viewing Orders
If you create an account in this web store before you place an order, you will be able to view the status of your order and you will also be able to download any downloadable software you may have purchased by visiting the My Account pages. Those pages retain your order history for you, and make it simple to reorder items.
Updating Account Information
Your account in this web store allows you to edit your account information, and to change your newsletter preferences, at any time.
Shipping & Delivery
We ship only to addresses in Canada. If you are in America, please click on the flag in the top right corner of this screen to go to our American store. Orders are normally shipped by our distributor in Ontario within two to three working days of receiving your order and verifying your credit card. Typically you will receive your order via Canada Post, within 7 to 10 days. Books, CDs, and any other “physical” items are charged a flat rate of $5 per item for shipping and handling for any Canadian address. There are no shipping or handling charges for items you download. If you add both download items and physical items (books, for example) to your shopping cart, shipping will only be calculated and charged for the physical items (the ones we ship through the mail). If you have any questions about shipping, please contact us (not our distributor) using one of the methods described under the “Contacting Us” heading at the bottom of this page.
Replacements
Within 15 days of delivery of a shipment of items you purchased from Self-counsel.com, if books, CDs, or other items purchased were received in damaged condition, you may return such damaged items for replacement. Please telephone our customer service department (1-800-663-3007 Vancouver) during normal office hours (PST) to pre-arrange for a replacement. Refunds
Within 30 days of delivery of a shipment, you may return any of the following items you purchased from Self-counsel.com, for any reason, for a full refund (we’ll also refund the shipping cost if the return is a result of our error): Any book in its original condition, and any unopened (still sealed in its original holder) CD product. Downloaded software is not eligible for refund. We can not accept returns for refund of any book that is returned more than 30 days after delivery, or was sold at a discount of 40 percent or more ("Sale" or “Special” items). We also can not accept returns for refund of any item that is not in its original condition, is damaged, or is missing parts. Please do not send us items that do not meet the conditions listed above, as we do not issue refunds for nonqualifying items and cannot return the items to you. We will notify you via email of your refund once we have received and processed the returned item. You can expect a refund in the same form of payment originally used for purchase within 7 to 14 business days of our receiving your return. If your return is not due to our error, we will deduct the shipping costs from your refund. Should you return an order that was placed using a promotional code, you will not be refunded for the amount of the discount, as these discounts were deducted from the original purchase amount. Library Sales
Certain books, kits, and digital products from Self-Counsel Press are not available for sale to libraries and are individually marked as such in this website and in our catalogs.
Commercial Use Restrictions
Legal forms kits and CD kits from Self-Counsel Press include a license which limits their use to personal use only. These kits are not available for sale to commercial businesses and may not be used in the provision of commercial services such as divorce typing services.
Trade Accounts
If you are a book reseller, please contact our Vancouver office during during normal office hours (PST) to arrange for a commercial account. Our Vancouver, BC customer service lines are open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m, Pacific Standard Time, weekdays. Our distributor will not set up the account without our approval. Please note that downloadable software items are not available for resale, except via an affiliate arrangement (see below).
Affiliate Program
Self-Counsel.com operates an affiliate program for websites that wish to promote our books, kits, or downloadable items and earn a commission on any click-through sales.
