Desk Copies

This page is for teachers. You can use this page and the pages linked to it to get information on our desk copy policies.

Only one desk copy is available for every twenty copies of each title ordered for course use. To order Desk Copies online, please complete the form below:

Please note: Desk copies cannot be sent until you have placed your book order with your university or local bookstore and we have been able to confirm the order.

Desk copies will not be shipped to private residences; they must be mailed in care of your institution.

Libraries

Certain books, kits, and digital products from Self-Counsel Press are not available for sale to libraries and are individually marked as such in this website and in our catalogs.

We were forced to make this policy decision after many many librarians insisted to us that the purchase of a title for their library gave them an “automatic right” to distribute the content of the enclosed CD-ROM in any manner that best served their library patrons.

We regret having to make the decision, but after these librarians agreed that allowing the photocopying of an entire book would be a violation of copyright, but the copying to CD or USB or other memory device of an entire CD was just fine, we felt had no choice.

Shipping

We ship only to addresses in the U.S.A. and Canada. If you want to purchase one of our books in another country, please check our list of distributors or browse our vast selection of ebooks and downloadable products.

U.S.A.

Books, CDs, and any other “physical” items are shipped by Priority Mail and are charged a flat rate for shipping and handling anywhere in the continental United States:

  • $7.00 for shipping and handling for each item (an “item” may be a book or CD kit or forms kit)
  • We normally ship within two working days of receiving your order and verifying your credit card
  • There are no shipping or handling charges for items you download

If you add both download items and physical items (books, for example) to your shopping cart, shipping will only be calculated and charged for the physical items (the ones we ship through the mail).

If you have any questions about shipping, please contact us (not our distributor) using one of the methods described under the “About Us” heading at the bottom of this page.

Canada

Orders are normally shipped within two to three working days of receiving your order and verifying your credit card. Typically you will receive your order via Canada Post, within 7 to 10 working days.

  • Books, CDs, and any other “physical” items are charged a flat rate of $5.00 per item for shipping and handling for any Canadian address
  • There are no shipping or handling charges for items you download.

If you add both download items and physical items (books, for example) to your shopping cart, shipping will only be calculated and charged for the physical items (the ones we ship through the mail).

Your account

Creating an account on this site is simple.

Here is how it works

  1. You create an account on the site. All we need is your name, a valid email address, and a password if you are purchasing a downloadable product (we will need a shipping address if you order a physical product like a book or a forms kit on CD).
  2. Remain logged in to your account and add a downloadable product to your shopping cart.
  3. Click the Checkout button and select a payment method.
  4. After your payment is confirmed, return to your account (log in if you logged out during the payment process).
  5. Use the link to “My Downloadable Products” in your account dashboard to download the item you purchased.

Creating an account

Click on the Log In button at the top of the shop page:

Complete the simple form:

You will be logged into your new Account Dashboard. Note the links on the left side — you will use
the My Downloadable Products link whenever you purchase a downloadable product. Other buttons
let you manage newsletter subscriptions, review orders you have placed, and more.

Replacements

Within 15 days of delivery of a shipment of items you purchased from Self-counsel.com, if books, CDs, or other physical items purchased were received in damaged condition, you may return such damaged items for replacement.

Contact us by:

    • email (orders at self-counsel.com ) to make the necessary arrangements, OR
    • telephone our customer service department (1-800-663-3007) during normal office hours (PST) to pre-arrange for a replacement.

Our customer service lines are open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m, Pacific Standard Time, weekdays.

Refunds

Within 30 days of delivery of a shipment, you may return any of the following items you purchased from the Self-Counsel website, for any reason, for a full refund (we’ll also refund the shipping cost if the return is a result of our error):

  • Any book in its original condition.
  • Any unopened (still sealed in its original holder) CD product.

We can not accept returns of:

  • Downloaded software.
  • Any book that is returned more than 30 days after delivery.
  • Any book sold at a discount of 40 percent or more (“Special” items).
  • Any item that is not in its original condition, is damaged, or is missing parts.

Please do not send us items that do not meet the conditions listed above, as we do not issue refunds for non-qualifying items and cannot return the items to you.

We will notify you via email of your refund once we have received and processed the returned item. You can expect a refund in the same form of payment originally used for purchase within 7 to 14 business days of our receiving your return.

If your return is not due to our error, we will deduct the shipping costs from your refund. Should you return an order that was placed using a promotional code, you will not be refunded for the amount of the discount, as these discounts were deducted from the original purchase amount.
